Project Management Agency:

Funded by the German Ministry of Transportation and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) in the program  “Automated and Connected Driving on Digital Test Fields in Germany”, the objective of the project ConVeX is to set-up a testbed for first field tests of 3GPP LTE Release 14 Cellular V2X (C-V2X) and validate its performance and feasibility.

The project consortium consists of multi-disciplinary organizations led by Qualcomm with Audi, Ericsson, Swarco Traffic Systems and University of Kaiserslautern being other consortium members. More details about the partners and their scope of work is given in the Partners page.

Connected Vehicle (V2X) of Tomorrow

Project Goals

  • Build/Expand a digital test field in Germany (A9) and carry out extensive test campaigns to demonstrate the performance and advantages of networked driving applications by seamlessly integrating Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), Vehicle-to-Infrastructure(V2I), Vehicle-to-Person (V2P) and Vehicle-to-Network (V2P) communications
  • World's first deployment of standard-compliant E-UTRA / LTE 3GPP Release-14 "Sidelink" radio technology and its integration into 5G network infrastructure
  • Develop, implement, deploy, and demonstrate sophisticated use cases that demonstrate the benefits of using a unified, cellular-based V2X 3GPP communication platform for tomorrow's connected car
  • Influencing the ongoing global standardization of technologies related to ITS / vehicle networking;
  • Integrate advanced cellular-based V2X communication technology in vehicles and on-street units to prepare for commercial deployment and contribute to the maturation of mobile-based V2X products by accelerating their market introduction
  • Implementation of the Federal Government's strategic goal of strengthening the innovation and technology leadership of the German automotive industry:
  • Development of an simulation tool for evaluating the interaction of networking technology and traffic safety/efficiency based on a detailed modeling of the deployed mobile solutions
